Step-by-step guide: how to create a multilingual website on Tilda

Creating a multilingual website on Tilda helps expand the audience and increase customer trust. Users will be able to choose their preferred language, and search engines will correctly index pages in different languages.
In this guide, we will analyze how to create a website in two or more languages on Tilda, what blocks to use, and how to properly configure SEO for multilingual pages.

1. Two Ways to Organize Multilingualism

🔹 Option 1 — Several Separate Websites (Different Projects)

This method is suitable if you want to separate a multilingual Tilda online store or corporate website into different domains, for example:
ru.site.com — Russian
en.site.com — English
de.site.com — German
This requires a Businessplan, which allows you to create multiple projects.
“Create multiple websites. It is most convenient to first make a version in one language, and then copy the pages and translate them into another language. Unfortunately, you cannot copy the entire website at once.”

This approach is often chosen for large websites that have separate SEO settings, subdomains, and analytics for each region.

🔹 Option 2 — one website with multiple language pages

This is the main method that Tilda recommends in its official guide to multilingualism.
Each page of the website has a language copy:
/ — Russian version
/en — English version
/de — German version
Create pages in each language. Add a suitable menu block to each: ME204, ME301, ME302, ME303 or a 'hamburger' menu ME401–403. In the block content, specify the languages and published links to the pages.

How to Create a Structure

  1. Copy pages and translate texts manually or using third-party services.
  2. Specify correct URLs: /ru, /en, /de.
  3. Set up hreflang on Tilda, so search engines understand which version is intended for which language.
  4. For each page, set unique Title, Description and og-tags — this is important for SEO of a multilingual Tilda website.

2. Adding a Language Switcher Menu

With any Tilda multilingual option it is necessary to add a language switcher menu — without it, users will not be able to switch between website versions.
Use standard menu blocks ME204, ME301, ME302, ME303 (horizontal) or ME401–403 (hamburger).
The menu should contain links to pages in other languages.

Examples

If the site is on one domain:
  • / → links to /en, /de
  • /en → links to /, /de
If languages are on separate domains:
  • site.ru → links to site.com, site.de
“Create pages in each language and add the appropriate menu block. In the block content, specify the languages and published links to the pages.”

This menu is also called the Tilda language switcher. It can be placed in the site header, footer, or as a separate element in a Zero Block.

Optional — automatic user redirection

Tilda supports automatic browser or country language detection using special blocks:

T805 — browser language redirection

Helps to automatically translate the website into the desired language, if the user visits, for example, with English browser settings.
“Add block T805. In the block, add cards for each language version and fill in the fields: two-letter language code and page link.”

T808 — geolocation redirect

Redirects visitors to the correct version of the site depending on their country.

These blocks are optional, but they improve convenience and SEO behavioral factors.

3. Multilingualism and SEO Optimization Check

After creating a website in two languages on Tilda it is important to check:
  1. Does the language switcher work on all pages.
  2. Are hreflang tags.
  3. All pages have unique Title, Description and og-tags.
  4. All language versions are added to sitemap.xml.
  5. Redirects T805 and T808 (if used) function correctly.
  6. Check indexing via Google Search Console and Yandex.Webmaster.

Conclusion

This article discusses two options for multilingualism:
1. Several separate websites (ru.site.com, en.site.com)
2. One website with language pages (/en, /de)
Tilda Blocks:
ME204–ME303, ME401–403 — language switcher menu, mandatory
